UMPK glide-bomb kit on FAB bombs

Unified gliding and correction module, UMPK-PD (extended-range version), FAB-500M-62 with UMPK, Russian JDAM

Bolt-on wing and satellite guidance kit that turns old unguided FAB bombs into glide bombs that Russian jets release tens of kilometres from the front line.

$20,000 Kit only, estimate. JAPCC gives about $20,000; Kyiv Independent cites Russian sources at 2 million roubles (about $24,000). The bomb itself comes from old Soviet stock.

Figures describe the most common FAB-500M-62 plus UMPK configuration: length, diameter and the 300 kg explosive fill (TNT equivalent) are Rosoboronexport's figures for the bare FAB-500M-62, and the kit adds weight past the 500 kg pylon rating per TWZ, so total launch weight is not published. The kit also goes on FAB-250 bombs (reported by TASS in May 2023), FAB-1500, and the FAB-3000, whose glide version Russia's defence ministry showed in July 2024 with a 1,387 kg high-explosive fill per Janes. JAPCC puts typical UMPK range at 60 to 70 km, with aircraft usually releasing 35 to 50 km from the front; Ukraine's Air Force said over 50 km in 2023, and the newer UMPB is assessed at up to 90 km. Ukrainian electronic warfare such as the Pokrova system has reportedly degraded UMPK accuracy.
